A: Arrival. [When Chikai wakes up, it’s with a lurch, gasping and clutching at first his chest, then lower by his side. The fact that there’s no sign of injury or blood should probably be reassuring, but all it does is confuse him more. There’s not even any bandages. That’s just... it’s not possible. Even beyond the vision of the lighthouse, he could still remember the pain, the cold, his brother’s voice. That couldn’t have all just been - what, some kind of nightmare?
Wait. His brother. Where was Toi? Chikai tried looking around the room for any sign of him, but he was alone in some boring-ass living room. Not that he really had much right to complain, he guessed, considering how and where he ‘fell asleep’. Maybe someone found him out there and dragged him to their place, patched him up? Hard to imagine, but not impossible. He shelved little inconvenient details like the lack of stains on his clothes or residual pain as unimportant, as long as he had a general idea that made sense.
Well, if someone brought him here, then they probably were expecting something in return. He groaned, rubbed the back of his neck, and checked his pockets. Most of his few things were still there, but no money and no gun. Hopefully whoever lent him a hand just took the cash and would consider this all settled, but if not... this could be a pain.
There was some noise coming from the adjacent kitchen - may as well get this over with. Plastering a confident grin on his face, he finally pushed himself up off the couch to stride right inside, and raised a hand in what he hoped was a non-threatening greeting.]
Hey there. You the one I should be saying ‘thanks’ to?
B: C-C-Changes [Once he’s gotten his bearings and a run-down of just what his situation is, Chikai doesn’t waste any time getting a lay of the land. The lack of locals is eerie, sure, but if he’s honest with himself, it’s sort of... a relief, too. He’s never been someone who has a problem with being alone, and after the day he had before arriving here, well, he could use some downtime.
And if he’s gonna be here a while, he may as well take advantage of the perks. Which is how he wound up sitting in the town center, surrounded by bags of seasonal snacks that he purchased from the market. Upon noticing someone approaching, he smirks and offers up the bag of pumpkin chips he just opened.]
Want some? They’re not half bad.
C: Pumpkin overflow [Most of the decorations around the town were nice enough. Colorful and even nostalgic, in a way. But Chikai had to admit, he thought the jack-o-lanterns were a little much. There were just way too many, it felt like he couldn’t even walk down the street without almost tripping over one.
In fact, he does trip over one. He glares back at it, pulling a metal ruler out from under his coat.]
You’re pretty annoying little veggies, aren’t ya?
[Squatting next to it, he starts poking at it with the ruler, slipping it through one of the carved eyes and rolling the pumpkin back and forth. Are a few of the surrounding jack-o-lanterns turned his way now? He hasn’t noticed.]
D. Heart game: confession Do people really pay enough attention to different seasons to celebrate new ones? All it changes is how many layers you gotta wear or what food’s cheapest.
[The beeping doesn’t stop. Guess that answer’s not gonna cut it. He tries to ignore it in a vain hope it’ll give up, but eventually-]
Ugh, fine. I guess I used to plan out different seasonal menus and shit back when I was in the food business. But that was a while ago.
