Arrival

Not all characters (known as Wickie, singular or Wickies, plural) arrive at the same time, surprisingly enough! That’s life for you. Some Wickies find their way to the island at a pivotal (or very mundane) point in their life, or even after or during their death.

Wickies who were standing or walking often find themselves entering the town South Sister, located on Lighthouse Isle, through an open doorway. Those that were laying down, or sleeping, tend to be found lying prone in beds, bathtubs, showers, couches, and similar places within the cottages on Cottage Row. There’s no rhyme or reason to it all! To Wickies familiar with the era, they will realize that everything looks as if it’s come from the ‘90s.

The house which a Wickie finds themselves within could already be occupied. This includes walking into a fellow Wicke, waking up in the same location, or accidentally scaring a room full of people with their sudden appearance.

Oops.

C-C-Changes

Thankfully the fog has gone down to what it was before, a slow creeping crawl over the ground. And too, the monsters of before are gone, leaving the town much like it was before. Well...close to what it was before.

For now the season's have changed, from a lingering summer to a cooler fall.

There’s new foods to try, even if some things like lattes cause people to slip into warm boots and tie up their hair, and soups make people curl up under blankets on the couch. And it also means decorations of all sorts, made of the leaves from the forest, orange, yellow and red things and...we can not forget...

Pumpkin overflow

Pumpkins! They're everywhere. Wickies will find pumpkins infused into all sorts of things, like coffee, ice cream, even spaghetti options! It's wild.

There’s also many jack o'lanterns. They have been placed everywhere in town, outside homes, and even small ones have been made into table decorations. The Jack o lanterns have very cheerful faces, and seem to watch Wickies every single move.

That is, until a Wickie bashes or otherwise abuses a pumpkin. That's when it changes- there seem to be more of them. Their expressions change to that of anger, sadness and disgust. None of them attack- yet. But their faces become more and more horrifying, as they follow the Wickie more and more- outside of the bathroom perhaps, or found on top of them as the Wickie wakes up in the middle of the night.

It shouldn't matter right? They're only pumpkins.

What a ride

Funny enough, with the pumpkin invasion, there also comes a dull colored horse wandering about the island. Its head is drooped, and it looks depressed and lonely. The horse is tame on approach and will accept pats and treats, even from those who are obviously not human.

But it also wants something, for all that it seems to be begging for attention. It wants someone to ride them, seems to even be begging for it with its big eyes. The horse will help Wickies to figure out how to mount; it will even stand beside the Town Center benches, rocks, or even go down in order to make it possible for the Wickie to get onto the horse’s back.

That’s when it changes. The Wickie is immediately wrapped in chains from their barrel to the Wickie’s waist. The horse turns a coal black and the Wickie’s clothing changes into that of a soldier's uniform, with a hand either holding a whip modeled after a human spine, or a jack o'lantern.

The Wickie cannot get off the horse on their own, no matter how much they struggle. As the horse moves throughout the town, they will go anywhere from a walk to a full canter, seemingly impervious to any magic or physical attacks. The same cannot be said for their unfortunate rider.

If the rider is hit, or simply in pain, the Wickie will feel an impulse that grows and grows until they scream a name of someone in town, someone they know.

And the named will drop, paralyzed. Paralyzed wickie are likely to die within minutes, more so if they are too close to horse and rider. The horse will happily trample anyone on the ground to death.

Even without the impulse, should the Wickie rider use anyone’s name, that person will drop, paralyzed, and unable to breathe.

There is only one way to possibly save the rider: scatter golden objects in their path. The horse will shriek, and promptly buck the rider off, before running away. Just make sure to catch the rider, or at least cushion their fall: they have no way of saving themselves until they hit the ground.

Heart game: confession

Current residents of the island may remember this particular beeping alert, and how it doesn’t go away, no matter what they do! That is, unless they open up the Heart Game, and answer the question.

Welcome back everyone! It’s so good to see you again! Now let’s play that game, Confession! And the question isssssss…

How do you celebrate the changing seasons! Don't be shy!

Would you prefer a more exacting specification.

[It seems Lahabrea's disinclined to actually explain what aether is, because he's more interested in seeing if this horse reacts EVEN REMOTELY the way a horse should.

Answer: no. It doesn't seem to mind at all being pushed at, and in the absence of an utterly terrifying plastic bag with which to flee from as if it were a tiger, persists in its efforts.

Frankly it's a pest. If nosing won't help, maybe plucking at her clothes and hair with its teeth will!

Lahabrea shifts his gaze to the jack-o-lanter, which somewhere between one moment and the next looks suddenly a bit surprised at jostling around so much.]

It is indeed a horse, I can assure you of that, but the voidsent are inevitably in the details. Mind the pumpkin, it may fall.

I would, if you'd be so inclined. [She says, so sweetly despite the look on her face. She's not being outright rude, but it's clear that she doesn't much care for his attitude.]

I grew up around horses. [As such, the fact that her hair is being covered in horse spit isn't dissuading her the way it would do others.] This ain't normal horse behaviour. And what is a "Voidsent?"

[Lahabrea's rude though. He's long since reached the age of not caring about other people's opinions, and would thoroughly recommend it if it ever occurred to him to do so.]

Ignorant and mortal. Case in point - 'demon' is another word your kind might use.

[Besides which, he'd already said the behavior wasn't right, she could just be parroting him!

... More importantly, the Ascian takes a moment to rescue the distressed pumpkin. He should have found a better place for it than on top of a moving object.

The horse doesn't care. It's too busy trying to solicit attention. Which it isn't getting. It stamps a hoof, impatient.]

[Oh. Ohhhh. Oh dear.]

Hun, just because someone doesn't know something doesn't make them ignorant. Not everyone can know everything. To the point where I'd be happy to tell you that we're not from the same world. Or same universe, likely. What I know is far different from what you might know.

[And that's information she's perfectly happy to share, considering that was shared at the campfire between survivors.]

To the point that "demons" don't exist where I'm from.

[Like, normally.]

[Something in all of that draws a slow unpleasant smile. The mask conveniently hides the rest of his expression rather thoroughly.]

That is the very definition of ignorant.

[He'd been polite enough to use ignorant over stupid, though the latter had sorely tempted.]

Allow me to expand your knowledge. This is a voidsent.

[Pumpkin tucked under one arm, he raises the other, talons curled skyward. Black and red fog seethes up out of nowhere from the ground, briefly startling the horse, which bounces sideways in alarm and kicks at nothing before stopping a short distance away.

The blackness coalesces into what looks awfully like a gigantic, flying, toothy eyeball with wings, arms and legs.

It isn't pretty. It does however look awfully startled, much like the horse, up until Kate's noticed, whereupon it reaches for her with a ghastly fangy grin. Unfortunately now that it's here, it like they, are stuck on the island. Oops. Lahabrea is not known for his stunning decisionmaking.

The horse apparently has decided now is a fantastic time to sidle up again. Is she sure she doesn't want a ride??]
hopesong: (Kindred)

sir did you just let loose an ahriman into a city

[personal profile] hopesong 2020-09-24 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[You know what. This is entirely just how today is going to be. Her heart quickens, and she can't help it. The thing is scary, especially as it reaches towards her with obvious ill intent.

The horse leans into her, offering an obvious means of escape, but she doesn't take it.

If she dies, she dies. It's just another death on her long track record, and the only thing she's wondering is how it's going to go down this time.

... God, she hopes it's at least quick.

Kate puffs out her chest, despite being obviously intimidated, holding her ground against the thing.
]

Seems to me like you're the ignorant one, hun. Putting people in danger to showboat.
fuelingfire: (pic#14328216)

It's friendly! It just wants to say hi!!

[personal profile] fuelingfire 2020-09-24 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
That would suggest I am not very aware of what is about to happen.

[Voidsent are nice and reliable. He had considered perhaps another diremite, but none happen to be on hand and otherwise it would be the jack-o-lantern and as of yet he has nothing against vegetables.

The horse too seems aware of where this is headed and plucks more determinedly at her, this is her last chance for a free escape! ..or. Well. Some other form of hideous torture but HEY, that's not the horse's fault!

If she doesn't take it this last time the horse will dance out of reach of hungry claws and fangs, it's here for a good time not to get eaten.]

I simply don't care about any of you.

[Lahabrea is going to do absolutely nothing at all to help or further hinder as the voidsent lashes out at its new target, and should it catch her, it will indeed be quick about its hungry business.. but not painless.]

[ooc note: ... if you happen to have anyone who might heroically charge in, I have no issues with that at all. It's going to drive Lahabrea up the wall when he finds out people he kills don't stay dead.]
