Not all characters (known as Wickie, singular or Wickies, plural) arrive at the same time, surprisingly enough! That’s life for you. Some Wickies find their way to the island at a pivotal (or very mundane) point in their life, or even after or during their death.
Wickies who were standing or walking often find themselves entering the town South Sister, located on Lighthouse Isle, through an open doorway. Those that were laying down, or sleeping, tend to be found lying prone in beds, bathtubs, showers, couches, and similar places within the cottages on Cottage Row. There’s no rhyme or reason to it all! To Wickies familiar with the era, they will realize that everything looks as if it’s come from the ‘90s.
The house which a Wickie finds themselves within could already be occupied. This includes walking into a fellow Wicke, waking up in the same location, or accidentally scaring a room full of people with their sudden appearance.
Oops.
C-C-Changes
Thankfully the fog has gone down to what it was before, a slow creeping crawl over the ground. And too, the monsters of before are gone, leaving the town much like it was before. Well...close to what it was before.
For now the season's have changed, from a lingering summer to a cooler fall.
There’s new foods to try, even if some things like lattes cause people to slip into warm boots and tie up their hair, and soups make people curl up under blankets on the couch. And it also means decorations of all sorts, made of the leaves from the forest, orange, yellow and red things and...we can not forget...
Pumpkin overflow
Pumpkins! They're everywhere. Wickies will find pumpkins infused into all sorts of things, like coffee, ice cream, even spaghetti options! It's wild.
There’s also many jack o'lanterns. They have been placed everywhere in town, outside homes, and even small ones have been made into table decorations. The Jack o lanterns have very cheerful faces, and seem to watch Wickies every single move.
That is, until a Wickie bashes or otherwise abuses a pumpkin. That's when it changes- there seem to be more of them. Their expressions change to that of anger, sadness and disgust. None of them attack- yet. But their faces become more and more horrifying, as they follow the Wickie more and more- outside of the bathroom perhaps, or found on top of them as the Wickie wakes up in the middle of the night.
It shouldn't matter right? They're only pumpkins.
What a ride
Funny enough, with the pumpkin invasion, there also comes a dull colored horse wandering about the island. Its head is drooped, and it looks depressed and lonely. The horse is tame on approach and will accept pats and treats, even from those who are obviously not human.
But it also wants something, for all that it seems to be begging for attention. It wants someone to ride them, seems to even be begging for it with its big eyes. The horse will help Wickies to figure out how to mount; it will even stand beside the Town Center benches, rocks, or even go down in order to make it possible for the Wickie to get onto the horse’s back.
That’s when it changes. The Wickie is immediately wrapped in chains from their barrel to the Wickie’s waist. The horse turns a coal black and the Wickie’s clothing changes into that of a soldier's uniform, with a hand either holding a whip modeled after a human spine, or a jack o'lantern.
The Wickie cannot get off the horse on their own, no matter how much they struggle. As the horse moves throughout the town, they will go anywhere from a walk to a full canter, seemingly impervious to any magic or physical attacks. The same cannot be said for their unfortunate rider.
If the rider is hit, or simply in pain, the Wickie will feel an impulse that grows and grows until they scream a name of someone in town, someone they know.
And the named will drop, paralyzed. Paralyzed wickie are likely to die within minutes, more so if they are too close to horse and rider. The horse will happily trample anyone on the ground to death.
Even without the impulse, should the Wickie rider use anyone’s name, that person will drop, paralyzed, and unable to breathe.
There is only one way to possibly save the rider: scatter golden objects in their path. The horse will shriek, and promptly buck the rider off, before running away. Just make sure to catch the rider, or at least cushion their fall: they have no way of saving themselves until they hit the ground.
Heart game: confession
Current residents of the island may remember this particular beeping alert, and how it doesn’t go away, no matter what they do! That is, unless they open up the Heart Game, and answer the question.
Welcome back everyone! It’s so good to see you again! Now let’s play that game, Confession! And the question isssssss…
How do you celebrate the changing seasons! Don't be shy!

You just wake up here?
[It's obviously not Boone's house, so it stands to reason.]
no subject
[He jerks his head towards the bathtub.]
Not sure what the hell is going on, though.
[Boone has his priorities, clearly. Loot first, ask questions later.]
This isn't home, though.
no subject
[He hasn't left the house yet, but the building alone has some faux-calmness to it. Wrong.]
What's your reigning theory?
no subject
[He got pretty drunk last night, but he doesn't make a habit of falling asleep in bathtubs.]
Guess we won't find out unless we look around a bit.
[Maybe it'll turn out they got abducted or something in their sleep. Considering how easy it is to wake Boone, he isn't so sure.]
You got any weapons?
no subject
[It's half-lie, but he doesn't have any weapons apart from himself.]
I'll grab something in here on the way out.
[Maybe there's a fire poker or some kid's baseball bat in a bedroom. There's definitely knives in the kitchen.]
no subject
[Boone doesn't offer up any of his weapons, because he doesn't know this guy. What if he tried to kill him and take his things? That's how it goes in the wasteland. You have to be more careful than that.]
Should probably let me go first, since I've got the gun.
[He shifts his sniper rifle to his hands, and exits the bathroom. He sweeps the room with his eyes first, before figuring it's clear and moving out further.]
Watch out for any traps... tripwires, pressure plates, that kinda thing.
no subject
[Jiro's clothes are bulletproof, but he's not going to mention that because why does this guy need to know? He walks behind Boone, but it's casual and he's looking at the decor and trinkets lying around.]
Dude, I don't think there's fucking tripwires in someone's lakehouse.
[They may not be by a lake, but this place is cottage-y and not at all a building Jiro expects to be rigged with traps. Outside is where he thinks they're more likely to encounter anyhing.]
no subject
[Boone has been to plenty of houses with traps in them. Enough to be wary now.]
Look, you might be right. All I know is that I've seen enough people step on pressure plates and had to fight enough caged radscorpions to figure it's better to be safe than sorry.
[Will that mean anything to this guy? Nope. But Boone stands by it.]
no subject
[That's certainly not something familiar.]
no subject
Yeah... you know, scorpions the size of people. Sometimes bigger.
[Who doesn't know what a radscorpion is?]
You telling me you've never seen one?
no subject
No! What, are they demons?
[Demons are his only frame of reference for something weird like that.]
no subject
[He's careful as he opens the front door, stepping back after swinging it open just in case it's booby-trapped.]
Least, that's what they say. Not like I know much more than how to kill them.
no subject
The radiation? Where the fuck did you come from?
[This is like a sci-fi B-movie scenario. Irradiated scorpions.]
no subject
[He gives him a suspicious look.]
Where'd you come from?
[He lowers his rifle a little as he steps outside. He's... where is he?]
no subject
[That's about all Jiro knows of any Vegas.]
I'm from Gamagori, Japan, which this is... not.
[The basket of corn and squash on the cabin steps gets a cursory examination. There are pumpkins lining the walkway.]
no subject
[He's not wrong, at least. In any case, Boone seems thoroughly distracted by his new surroundings.]
Japan, huh... never been.
[Said wryly, before he crouches down to examine a pumpkin.]
no subject
This place is creepy. It's too quiet.
no subject
[He stands again and steps over the pumpkin carefully, looking around at the other cottages. There seems to be a faint fog swirling around knee height, which is weirder to him than the silence.]
Means you can hear trouble when it shows up.
no subject
[He starts walking down the street.]
Lemme know if you hear any of those radscorpions skittering around the fog.
no subject
[He hears nothing so far, though. And he sticks by Jiro out of habit, though he hangs back a little, growing more and more suspicious when he doesn't hear anything coming to kill him.]
Feels like we're being watched...
[By what, though?]
no subject
[He doesn't have the experience of being in these types of situations where everything should be watched out of the corner of his eye. So he's not at all subtle when he turns around quickly to catch this thing in the act of... staring at them or something.
The pumpkins are now in the road.]
no subject
Goddammit, someone's screwing with us.
[They have to be. He's admittedly not sure what a pumpkin is outside of having seen a cartoon picture of one once, but they probably can't move on their own.]
Keep your eyes peeled. Someone's gotta be-
[He turns back around- there are now pumpkins in front of them, too.]
no subject
[Sentient pumpkins should be laughable, but they're not. It only implies someone controlling them, which he's sure is what Boone was about to say. So, he's going to yell to this person, wherever they may be.]
Oi! Pumpkin... guy! Too scared to attack on your own!?
no subject
[Boone moves forward and kicks a pumpkin out of the way. It's hard to miss how their eyes seem to shift in unison towards him, and the hostility in the air is sudden and unnerving. Clearly uncomfortable, Boone turns to look at the other man.]
You feel that, or is it just me?
no subject
[Not that it's something he knows anything about. The mouths of the pumpkins seem to get more downturned, developing sneers. He kicks one to see if they react to that too.
They inch forward, eyes narrowing, their anger palpable.]
